10 Muharram 1448H – Thursday 25/06/2026 (The day of Ashura)
Wednesday, the 24th of June 2026 is the 10th day of Muharram, the day of Ashura. It is sunnah to fast on the 9th & 10th days of Muharram (Wednesday 24/06/2026 & Thursday 25/06/2026). Fasting on Wednesday begins at 03:13 and ends at 20:59 and on Thursday begins at 03:14 and ends at 20:59. (Katowice Time).
Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) arrived in Medina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. He asked them about it. They replied, "It is a good day, the day on which Allah saved the Bani Israel from their enemies." Moses did the same on that day. The Prophet said, "We have a greater right to Moses than you, and the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered us (Muslims) to fast." [Sahih Bukhari]
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "If I live to see the next year, I will also fast on the ninth day (of Muharram). Like every act of worship, fasting on the day of Ashura brings with it many graces and blessings. By fasting on this day, we not only draw closer to Allah by following in the footsteps of His Prophets (peace be upon him), but we can also expect forgiveness of sins, for as Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed, "Fasting on the day of Ashura erases the sins of the previous year."
