The Eclipse Prayer may be performed in congregation or individually. There is no Adhan or Iqamah for this prayer. Instead, it is announced by saying:
“As-Salatu Jami‘ah”
(“Gather for the prayer”).
During the Eclipse Prayer, the recitation is made aloud.
Step-by-Step Method
First Rak‘ah
Begin the prayer with Takbirat al-Ihram by saying “Allahu Akbar” and recite the opening supplication (Du‘a al-Istiftah).
Recite Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a long passage from the Qur'an.
Perform a long Ruku‘ (bowing).
Rise from the bowing and say:
“Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa laka al-hamd”
(“Allah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, to You belongs all praise.”)
Remain standing.
Recite Surah Al-Fatihah again, followed by another long recitation that is shorter than the first.
Perform a second long Ruku‘, shorter than the first one.
Rise from the second bowing and again say:
“Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa laka al-hamd.”
Perform two lengthy Sujud (prostrations).
Second Rak‘ah
Stand for the second Rak‘ah and perform it in the same manner as the first:
Two lengthy standings with recitation,
Two lengthy bowings (Ruku‘),
All shorter than those in the first Rak‘ah.
Perform two lengthy prostrations (Sujud).
Sit for Tashahhud.
End the prayer with Taslim.
After the prayer, the Imam delivers a Khutbah (sermon) similar to the sermons given after the Friday prayer or the Eid prayer.
